SRINAGAR, JULY 17: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday undertook a visit to the Nunwan Base Camp to take stock of the facilities being provided to the pilgrims of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, as the annual pilgrimage continues to witness an overwhelming response from devotees across the country.
During his visit, the LG conducted a comprehensive review of the essential services, including drinking water, power supply, telecom connectivity, accommodation, healthcare, and security arrangements. He also inspected the Yatra Registration Counter to assess the efficiency of the process. Emphasizing a proactive approach, the LG directed all departments to operate in ‘mission mode’ to ensure the holistic welfare of the pilgrims.
Addressing the media and officials, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted the successful progression of the yatra so far. “Today marks 15 days since the pilgrimage began, and in these 15 days more than 3.50 Lakh pilgrims have had darshan of Baba Bholenath. By the grace of Lord Shiva, the yatra is proceeding smoothly. There is great enthusiasm among devotees coming from every corner of the country, and local residents and service providers are also actively engaged in making this sacred pilgrimage a success,” the LG stated.
Underscoring the administration’s commitment to a sustainable pilgrimage, the LG stressed the importance of environmental protection. He instructed officials to conduct special cleanliness drives along both routes and camps. “We are dedicated to a waste-free Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra and we must, working together under a whole-of-government approach, fulfill this commitment,” he asserted.
To ensure transparency and prevent overcharging, the LG directed that all services provided to the pilgrims strictly follow a 100 percent prepaid system. He further ordered officers to regularly obtain feedback from the pilgrims and ensure prompt redressal of grievances. In view of the forecast for heavy rainfall, the administration was directed to strengthen contingency measures and enhance safety protocols, including the mandatory installation of fire extinguishers in every tent.
During his interaction, the LG noted that the pilgrims expressed immense satisfaction with the cleanliness, sanitation, security, and accommodation facilities. He credited the expansion of infrastructure and pilgrim facilities in recent years for the positive feedback. The LG also lauded the contributions of shopkeepers, service providers, langar-sevadars, and volunteers for their invaluable support.
Speaking to the media, the LG highlighted the economic impact of the pilgrimage, noting that following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal, a large number of devotees are purchasing local products, including handloom and handicrafts, boosting the local economy. “This pilgrimage continues to drive vital economic benefits for Jammu Kashmir. In the days to come, this pilgrimage will be remembered as a truly memorable and historic one,” he added.
