Jammu, Jul 30 : Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) will remain suspended for the entire day on July 31 to facilitate widening and restoration work, officials said on Wednesday.
The decision follows separate permissions granted by the District Magistrates of Udhampur and Ramban to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for carrying out carriageway widening at Ladha and Samroli, and removal of loose overhanging debris near Gangroo and Kishtwari Pather on the Udhampur-Banihal section, they said.
In view of the exercise, movement of all types of vehicles will be barred between Jakheni in Udhampur and the NAVYUG Tunnel in Banihal on July 31, the Traffic Police Headquarters said in an advisory.
“No vehicle will be allowed to proceed beyond Nagrota in Jammu towards Srinagar, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and Patnitop, and vice versa,” an official said, adding that movement beyond Qazigund towards Ramban, Udhampur and Jammu will also be stopped after 10 PM on July 30.
The restrictions have been imposed on the request of NHAI to ensure safety of commuters and drivers plying on the highway, they added.
Commuters have been advised to plan their journey accordingly, the advisory said. (KNS)
