Srinagar, Aug 6 : Jammu and Kashmir Advisor to Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Sogami on Thursday asserted that horticulture remains the lifeline of the Union Territory’s economy and said the administration will not allow any obstruction in the transportation of fruit produce to domestic and international markets.

Nasir Sogami, accompanied by the Agriculture Minister, conducted an on-site inspection of the Jablipora Fruit Mandi in Bijbehara, Anantnag in South Kashmir reviewed logistical arrangements along key transit corridors officials said.

The exercise was carried out on the instructions of the senior leadership to identify and remove bottlenecks in the supply chain ahead of the peak fruit export season, they added.

“We are going to Qazigund, Ramban and Udhampur to ensure free flow of fruit consignments to foreign markets. We will not allow any obstacle to come in the way,” Sogami told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).

The Advisor said the horticulture sector is a critical component of the region’s economy and the administration is fully committed to safeguarding the interests of growers.

“All the people here earn their livelihood through this, and we will never let any hurdle affect it,” he added.

Responding to a question on whether the government would adopt a fresh strategy to address long-pending issues, Sogami said, “Of course, InshaAllah.”

The team had been conducting ground-level assessments since morning and had taken stock of the mandi’s functioning, officials said. (KNS).
