Srinagar, Oct 1 : Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Thursday said September was a month of many operational achievements for the force in counter-terrorism, claiming that the plans of impure neighbours were being defeated every day while the police simultaneously maintained law and order and worked on crime prevention and detection.

Addressing the flag-in ceremony of the “Run for Unity” marathon organised by J&K Police at Lake View Environmental Park, Police Golf Course, Dal Lake, Srinagar, DGP said the force was working to counter the plans of terrorists.

J&K Police, in an attempt to neutralise the plans of the impure neighbours, the counter-terrorist operations that we carry out, under your guidance, the month of September has been a month of joy for us, and a month of many operational achievements, he said.

The police chief said the increasing participation of children and youth in the marathon was a message of their commitment to peace and a better future.

The youth of Kashmir, the residents of the whole of J&K, are investing in peace, peace over violence, progress over destruction, and most importantly, for light. J&K has risen from darkness to light, he said.

He said J&K Police was making efforts to involve youth in its initiatives, including sports tournaments and the Civic Action Programme.

On the anti-drug campaign, the DGP said 3,257 cases have been registered so far, with more than 2,500 disposed of and around 4,000 people arrested. He said 170 convictions have been secured.

He said 288 properties worth more than ₹138 crore have been attached, while cash exceeding ₹80 lakh has been seized.

DGP Prabhat further said J&K Police was “at the top” in the country in preventive detention under PIT-NDPS, with 144 people booked.

Highlighting the force’s role in the annual Amanat Ji Yatra, he said 19 Mountain Rescue Teams of J&K Armed Police were deployed during this year’s pilgrimage.

Referring to the rescue operation following the Gulmarg gondola incident in which tourists were stranded, Kumar praised the J&K Police Mountain Rescue Teams and SBRF personnel for carrying out the operation.

He also mentioned the achievements of Armed Police personnel in mountaineering and sports, including successful summit attempts at Kang Yatse in Ladakh and Kolahoi in Anantnag, as well as a medal at the Asian Championship in Vietnam.

Because of you, the contact of the J&K Police with the youth is getting closer day by day, DGP said. (KNS)
