Srinagar, Oct 22 : The 60 million litres per day (MLD) Sewage Treatment Plant at Noorbagh in Srinagar is yet to be completed and commissioned, with several works, including repairs to leakages and refurbishment of equipment, still pending.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg on Thursday directed the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) to complete all remaining works within one month and hand over the project to the Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED).
The directions came during a review of the Comprehensive Sewerage Scheme of Greater Srinagar, being implemented under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM).
According to an official statement, the pending works include installation of a hydraulic gate at the Noorbagh outfall near a damaged riverbank, remodelling of transformers at the Outfall Pumping Station and Infall Pumping Station, and plugging of leakages in the treatment plant.
The refurbishment of agitators and aerators, which are essential components of the sewage treatment process, also remains to be completed.
The Divisional Commissioner directed NBCC to finish these works within the stipulated period to facilitate commissioning of the plant.
He also instructed the Executive Engineer, UEED, to conduct site inspections twice a week to monitor progress and coordinate with the agencies involved.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Chief Engineer UEED, General Manager NBCC and officials from KPDCL, PHE, Roads and Buildings Department and Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
The official statement did not specify the original completion deadline, the expenditure incurred so far or the reasons for the pending works.
