Srinagar, September 26 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday announced the reopening of 12 tourist destinations across Jammu and Kashmir, which had been closed earlier as a precautionary measure.

The decision follows a detailed security review conducted at the Unified Headquarters (UHQ) meeting.

In an official post on X, the office of the J&K LG stated that after a thorough assessment and discussions during the UHQ meeting, the Lieutenant Governor approved reopening of several tourist spots in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions. The post confirmed that the reopening will take effect from Monday, September 29.

Among the locations in Kashmir Division set to reopen are Aru Valley, Rafting Point Yanner, Akkad Park, Padshahi Park, and Kaman Post. In the Jammu Division, tourist sites including Dagan Top, Ramban, Dhaggar in Kathua, Shiv Cave in Salal, and Reasi will resume operations from the same date.

The security review was attended by key officials, including Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma, J&K Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Chief Secretary Atal Duloo, as well as heads of paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies.

The meeting assessed the overall security situation in the region before issuing clearance for reopening the tourist destinations.

The Lieutenant Governor’s office emphasized that the decision to reopen these sites is part of ongoing efforts to balance security considerations with the revival of tourism in the Union Territory. Authorities have urged visitors to adhere to standard safety protocols while visiting these locations.

This move, as per official, is expected to provide a boost to the local tourism sector, which has faced temporary disruptions due to security measures. Officials stated that all necessary arrangements are in place to ensure smooth operations and the safety of tourists across the reopened sites.(KNS).
