Jammu, Dec 31 : In a significant achievement under the road safety mission, Traffic Police Rural Kashmir has recorded a notable decline in road accidents and fatalities during 2025, reflecting the impact of strengthened enforcement and improved traffic management measures.

Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Rural Kashmir, Ravinder Pal Singh, informed the media about the challenges faced and milestones achieved by the department during the year. He said that despite difficult terrain, rising vehicular load, and adverse weather conditions, the unit succeeded in ensuring effective traffic regulation across its jurisdiction.

Sharing comparative data, the SSP said that 1,729 road accidents were reported in 2024, resulting in 279 fatalities and 2,398 injuries. However, due to focused remedial measures under the road safety mission, the figures showed a clear improvement in 2025. During the current year, road accidents reduced to 1,502, while fatalities dropped to 210 and injuries to 2,240.

He attributed the decline to sustained enforcement drives, awareness campaigns, strict action against traffic violations, and zero tolerance towards dangerous practices such as overloading and underage driving.

The SSP reaffirmed the commitment of Traffic Police Rural Kashmir to continue on the same trajectory in the coming year, with renewed focus on minimizing accidents, saving lives, and ensuring safer roads for all commuters. (KNS)
