JAMMU, Feb 19 : The Jammu and Kashmir administration has established 307 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJK) across the Union Territory to enhance access to affordable generic medicines, the government informed the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

Responding to a query by legislator Javaid Riyaz Bedar, the government as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) stated that no violations regarding non-compliance with generic prescription norms under the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act, 2019, have been reported in 2024-25.

The government said it is enforcing generic prescription guidelines as per the Indian Medical Council Regulations, 2002, and the NMC Act. Authorities are conducting quarterly prescription audits to ensure adherence by medical professionals.

“The Health and Medical Education Department has established a maximum number of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras within health institutions,” the government said in a written reply as per KNS.

Officials said the Kendras are functional in all district hospitals, with the total count reaching 307 across the UT. The government noted that the AMRIT facility, operational since 2023, is also functioning in line with these regulations.

“The objective is to provide quality medicines and surgical items at affordable prices to the people,” the response added. (KNS)
