Srinagar, Mar 5 : Authorities have decided to continue precautionary restrictions across all districts of the Kashmir Valley on Friday in view of recent protests over the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, officials said.

The decision was taken as a preventive measure to maintain law and order and avoid any untoward incidents, they said.

Some parts of the Valley witnessed protests earlier this week following reports of Khamenei’s death amid air strikes in Tehran, prompting the administration to impose restrictions in several areas.

A senior official said the situation across Kashmir remained largely peaceful on Thursday, but the administration was not taking any chances.

“The restrictions will continue on Friday as a precautionary step to ensure that peace is maintained,” the official said.

Security personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas, while movement in certain localities may remain regulated depending on the assessment of district authorities, officials added.

They said the administration was closely monitoring the developments and would review the situation periodically. Further decisions would be taken based on the ground assessment, they said.

There was no report of any major law and order incident during the day, officials added.(KNS)
