Srinagar, Mar 11 : The Food Safety team of Srinagar district conducted market inspections in several commercial areas of the city to check compliance with food safety and hygiene standards, officials said on Wednesday.

The inspection drive was carried out in key markets including Karan Nagar, Bal Garden and Residency Road to ensure adherence to public health protocols and food quality standards, they said.

During the inspections, Food Business Operators (FBOs) were directed to strictly comply with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act and related regulations.

Officials instructed operators to maintain proper sanitation and hygiene at their establishments to prevent contamination of food items.

Staff involved in food handling and processing were also asked to maintain personal hygiene and follow prescribed safety practices, they said.

The team also advised shopkeepers and food operators to upgrade their storage facilities and waste disposal systems to meet the required food safety standards.

Officials warned that any violation of the Food Safety Act or failure to maintain hygiene standards would invite strict legal action, including heavy fines and suspension of business licences.(KNS).
