Srinagar, Apr 29 : The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has registered a case against an unauthorised consultancy for allegedly duping a man and trafficking him to Cambodia on the false promise of a job, officials said on Wednesday.

An official told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) the complainant was lured by the consultancy operating from Pattan area with an offer of employment as a computer operator abroad with a lucrative monthly salary, he said.

Acting on the assurance, the victim transferred a substantial amount to the operator’s bank account and also bore expenses on travel and related purchases, the officials added.

However, upon reaching Cambodia, he was received by unidentified persons who coerced him into engaging in fraudulent online activities. When he refused, the victim realised he had been deceived, he said.

Preliminary probe has revealed the commission of offences punishable under Section 318(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, following which a formal case was registered at Police Station EOW Srinagar, officials said, adding that further investigation is underway. (KNS)
