Srinagar, May 2 (KNS) : The weather in Jammu and Kashmir is likely to remain unsettled till May 4, with the Meteorological Department forecasting intermittent rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds at several places across the Union Territory.

A senior metrological department official at Srinagar told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) that scattered places may receive light rainfall and thundershowers on May 2, mainly during the afternoon hours, accompanied by strong gusty winds.

“The weather will remain generally cloudy on May 3 and 4, with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places,” he said. Thunderstorms, hailstorms, and winds gusting up to 40-50 kmph may occur at a few locations during different parts of the day, he added.

On May 5, brief spells of light rain or thundershowers are likely at scattered places, mainly in the afternoon.Weather conditions are expected to improve from May 6 to 9, with mostly dry conditions prevailing, though isolated showers may occur.

For the period May 10 to 12, the weather is likely to remain largely dry, with chances of very light rain at isolated places during afternoon hours, the MeT department said.

An advisory has also been issued warning of possible hailstorms and gusty winds in parts of Central and North Kashmir, as well as in some areas of Jammu division. Residents have been advised to avoid standing near weak structures, electric poles, and overhead wires. Farmers have been urged to suspend agricultural activities between May 3 and 5 in view of the expected adverse weather. (KNS)
