New Delhi, May 2 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday welcomed the inauguration of the ‘Sacred Exposition of the Holy Relics of the Tathagata’ in Leh on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, saying it would strengthen spiritual and cultural connect in Ladakh.

The exposition was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Leh, marking what officials described as a significant return of the sacred relics to the region.

In a post on X, Modi said the relics, linked to the Piprahwa Stupa in Kapilavastu and unearthed in the late nineteenth century, embody the enduring teachings of Lord Buddha.

The relics, symbolising peace and compassion, are currently on display for public veneration at Jivetsal in Leh from May 2 to May 10. They will then travel to the Zanskar region, where they will be exhibited on May 11 and 12, before the exposition concludes on May 14.

The prime minister said the event offers people across Ladakh an opportunity to pay their respects and engage with the region’s spiritual heritage.

He added that the exposition is also expected to boost spiritual and cultural tourism in Ladakh.(KNS).
