Srinagar, May 03 : The Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, on Sunday launched a major campaign against drug abuse and narco-terrorism here, announcing a “zero tolerance” policy and calling for a collective fight involving youth, civil society, and community leaders.

An official told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the Lok Bhavan-led initiative seeks to intensify efforts to dismantle drug networks across Jammu and Kashmir.

The campaign will involve coordinated action by law enforcement agencies, strict monitoring, and large-scale awareness drives to identify and take action against peddlers and their backers, he said.

The official added that the campaign is part of the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s broader strategy to ensure a drug-free society.

Speaking at the launch in Srinagar, LG Sinha, as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), said narco-terrorism — the alleged nexus between drug smuggling and cross-border militancy — remains a serious threat to the region’s security and the future of its youth.

“The administration will adopt zero tolerance against those involved in drug trafficking and related activities,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor urged community leaders and civil society members to actively participate in weaning youngsters away from substance abuse.

Meanwhile, as per a KNS correspondent reporting from the ground, a sea of people gathered at Srinagar’s TRC Football Stadium for the padyatra against drugs, which was flagged off by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. (KNS)
