Srinagar, May 10 : National Conference leader and Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of having “raised his voice only against the Kashmiri people” since assuming office in 2024.
The remarks came in response to CM Omar Abdullah’s recent “cloudburst” comment, which has caused political ripples across the Valley. When asked about the Chief Minister’s statement in an interview with Kashmir News Service (KNS), MP Ruhullah said, “Since becoming Chief Minister in 2024, Omar Abdullah has only ‘burst’ upon the people of Jammu and Kashmir. I hope this time the cloudburst is directed at those in power at the Centre, against whom the people voted democratically and institutionally.”
The MP further stated “I know that since he became the Chief Minister in 2024, he has raised his voice only against the Kashmiri people.”
When asked whether his “big announcement” could signal a political realignment, MP Mehdi declined to comment further, reiterating “You will see it. I will see it.”
During a wide-ranging conversation with KNS Editor-in-Chief Mohd Aslam Bhat, MP Ruhullah also addressed several other key issues in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, including the National Conference’s recent party meeting, the reservation policy, the setback to the NC in the Budgam elections, the shifting political dynamics in J&K, and his own disappointments with the National Conference.
