New Delhi, May 11: Narendra Modi on Monday urged schools to consider temporary online classes and called for wider adoption of work-from-home and virtual meetings to help reduce fuel consumption amid the ongoing West Asia crisis and global energy disruptions.
Addressing a programme in Gujarat, Modi said India needed to take precautionary measures to minimise the impact of the international situation on the country’s economy and energy resources.
He said reducing unnecessary travel and fuel usage had become important in view of the evolving global circumstances.
“Arrangements for online classes should be considered for some time,” the prime minister said, suggesting that institutions and offices explore alternatives that could help conserve fuel.
Modi also encouraged companies and organisations to hold virtual meetings wherever possible and promote work-from-home practices to cut down on commuting and energy consumption.
Referring to the uncertainty in global energy markets, he said India must remain prepared and adopt practical steps to ensure efficient use of available resources.
The prime minister said collective efforts by citizens, educational institutions and workplaces could help ease pressure on fuel demand during the current situation.(KNS).
