Srinagar, May 17 : Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on Sunday said the women of Jammu and Kashmir are emerging as a powerful force in India’s development journey, asserting that the region’s daughters are excelling in education, civil services and leadership roles.

Addressing the National Commission for Women’s “Power Dialogue on Women” programme in Jammu and Kashmir, Singh congratulated NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar for organising the initiative in the Union Territory as part of a nationwide series.

According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), he said the programme reflects the Centre’s focus on empowering women and addressing issues concerning them at the grassroots level. Singh said Jammu and Kashmir, known for its spiritual and cultural heritage, has witnessed decades of suffering and conflict, during which many women lost family members and faced hardships.

“Now, as Jammu and Kashmir is coming out of that difficult phase, special attention towards women empowerment shows the priority being given to the region,” he said.

The Union Minister said various welfare schemes introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the last decade have increased the confidence and aspirations of women in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said girls from the region are performing exceptionally in civil services examinations as well as IIT and NIT entrance tests, adding that they are now actively participating in the country’s mainstream development process.

Singh further said the women of Jammu and Kashmir would play a major role in shaping the vision of a developed India by 2047, when the country will celebrate 100 years of Independence.

“The daughters, mothers and sisters of this place will illuminate the future of Jammu and Kashmir and contribute significantly to India’s growth story,” he said.(KNS)
