Anantnag, May 18 : Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag, Amod Nagpuri (IPS), on Monday said that no innocent would be harrased and no culprit would be spared, asserting that citizens do not require an appointment or fixed visiting hours to meet him.
Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), SSP Nagpuri vowed to make Anantnag district drug-free and crime-free in the near future, adding that over 130 FIRs have been registered in the district since April 11 and hundreds of people have been arrested.
He said properties worth Rs 1.10 crore were attached in the Shri Gufwara area on Monday, while motorcycles worth Rs 20 lakh and Bolero vehicles used in the illegal drug trade have been seized and auctioned — a process first started by Anantnag district.
The SSP appreciated officers from Police Station Bijbehara, SDPO Bijbehara, and SHO Bijbehara for registering the highest number of FIRs and attaching the maximum property value last month, stating that the recognition was given to foster healthy competition.
SSP Nagpuri said 53 Lumbardars and Chowkidars have been identified for failing to report illegal opium cultivation, and criminal action under Section 32 of the NDPS Act is being initiated against them.
Describing the anti-drug campaign as a mass movement under the leadership of the Lieutenant Governor, the SSP noted that people from remote and backward communities are now participating in Thana Divas meetings with increased confidence.
“There will be no injustice to any innocent,” Nagpuri said, while instructing all police officers to ensure no poor person is harmed and no criminal escapes their clutches. “Police and public are a family,” he added, urging citizens to maintain their faith in the force, he further said. (KNS)
