Ramban, May 30 : Two persons were killed after a truck veered off the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), plunged into a deep gorge, and burst into flames near Gangroo in the Ramsoo area of Ramban district on Saturday, officials said.

The truck was heading from Jammu to Srinagar when the driver apparently lost control on the mountainous stretch. The vehicle skidded off the road, rolled down into the gorge, and was soon engulfed in flames, official said.

Rescue teams, local police, and volunteers rushed to the spot and launched an operation. After the fire was doused, two charred bodies were recovered from the wreckage.

The deceased are believed to be the driver and the cleaner of the truck, though their identities have not been established yet, an official said.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety on the vulnerable NH-44 stretch in Ramban, which witnesses frequent accidents due to sharp curves and difficult terrain. (KNS)
