Srinagar, June 1 : Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani on Monday described the June 3 meeting convened by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah with National Conference legislators as a routine exercise aimed at reviewing governance and the performance of the government.
Speaking exclusively to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), Wani said there was no need to read too much into the meeting, which is being held as part of a regular review mechanism adopted by ruling parties across the country.
“It is a routine meeting of legislators to review governance and performance. We should not read too much into it. Such meetings are held by ruling parties across the country from time to time,” Wani told KNS.
Sources told KNS that the high-level meeting, scheduled to be held at the Chief Minister’s Gupkar residence on June 3, will focus on governance issues, implementation of budget announcements and the overall performance of the government.
The meeting is expected to review progress on commitments made in the Budget, with particular emphasis on ensuring timely implementation of developmental initiatives across all sectors and regions.
According to sources, the legislators are also likely to discuss issues relating to the delay in restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, business rules governing the functioning of the elected government and the reservation policy.
Apart from National Conference legislators, four independent MLAs supporting the government—Akram Choudhary (Surankote), Dr. Rameshwar Singh (Bani), Muzaffar Iqbal Khan (Thanamandi) and Pyare Lal Sharma (Inderwal)—have also been invited to attend the meeting.
Sources further said the meeting may deliberate on certain pending political and administrative matters, including the appointment of a Deputy Speaker, the Vice-Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Board and the filling of three vacant ministerial positions.
Meanwhile, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Hameed Karra told KNS that the meeting is a National Conference affair and that Congress leaders have not been invited.
“It is a routine meeting of the National Conference. We have not been invited to the meeting,” Karra told KNS.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, meanwhile, dismissed speculation surrounding the meeting, saying those commenting the most about it were the ones who knew the least about its agenda.
In a post on X, CM Omar Abdullah wrote: “I love how the people who know the least about the meeting I’ve called with my MLAs are talking the most. Remember one thing – those who know don’t speak and those who speak sit in the opposition.”
Notably, The June 3 meeting may indeed be a routine administrative review on paper, but the speculation rises as last month CM Omar Abdullah said while addressing a gathering in Tangmarg that after Eid will burst like Cloudburst. (KNS)
