Srinagar, June 6: The Jammu and Kashmir government has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court in connection with the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) issue, Education Minister Sakina Itoo said on Saturday, asserting that the administration remains committed to protecting the interests of teachers.
In a post on X, Itoo said the review petition had been filed in line with the government’s earlier commitment.
“As committed, the review petition has been filed before the Hon’ble Supreme Court. The government has consistently pursued this matter and remains fully committed to safeguarding the interests of our teachers,” she said.
The minister had announced on May 30 that the government would seek a review of the apex court’s directions related to the TET issue.
She had then said that the administration had been actively pursuing the matter and had taken concrete steps to address concerns raised by teachers.
According to the minister, the government had sanctioned the filing of a review petition and the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs had, through a communication issued on May 26, directed its standing counsel to initiate the required legal process.
The development comes months after the School Education Department placed in abeyance an order designating the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE), functioning through the State School Standards Authority (SSSA), as the nodal agency for conducting the Teacher Eligibility Test in the Union Territory.
In an order issued in February, the department said the notification appointing JKBOSE/SSSA as the nodal agency for conducting TET would remain in abeyance until further orders.
The earlier notification had stated that the decision was taken in compliance with directions issued by the Supreme Court and empowered JKBOSE/SSSA to conduct the eligibility test across Jammu and Kashmir with immediate effect.(KNS).
