Srinagar, Jun 26 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday visited the Zadibal area here to join mourners on the occasion of Youm-e-Ashura and distributed refreshments at a camp set up by the National Conference.

The Chief Minister, accompanied by his advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and local MLA Tanvir Sadiq, moved among the volunteers and participants at the distribution point, offering water and milk to those observing the day.

Large numbers of devotees converged in the area to mark Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, which commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his companions in the Battle of Karbala. The annual commemoration witnessed processions and religious gatherings at several places across the valley.

Meanwhile, security arrangements remained in place as the observances passed off peacefully, officials added. (KNS)
