SRINAGAR, Jul 14: The Jammu and Kashmir government has made Aadhaar authentication mandatory for registration on the Union Territory’s Drug De-addiction Registry Portal (DDRP).

The Health and Medical Education Department order accessed news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) stated that beneficiaries seeking treatment through the portal will have to verify their identity using Aadhaar or furnish proof of enrolment. The DDRP, maintained by the State Drug Controller Office under the NCORD mechanism, keeps records of patients and regulates the supply of psychotropic medicines prescribed during de-addiction programmes, officials said.

The registry covers treatment, counselling, rehabilitation and distribution of medicines. The move is aimed at streamlining patient records, preventing duplicate registrations and strengthening monitoring, they added.

The notification, however, provided an alternative for those without Aadhaar, stating that such beneficiaries would continue to receive treatment while completing the enrolment process to ensure that no eligible patient is denied healthcare access.

Officials said the decision would improve accountability and ensure that government-supported treatment facilities and medicines reach only genuine beneficiaries. (KNS).
