Srinagar, Aug 03 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday hailed the selection of cricketer Auqib Nabi to the Indian Test squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, terming it a “proud and joyous moment” for Jammu and Kashmir.
Taking to social media platform X, the LG as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) extended his warmest congratulations to the young pacer and expressed confidence in his abilities. “It is a proud and joyous moment for Jammu Kashmir. I extend my best wishes to him and hope he achieves great success while representing the nation,” the LG posted.
Earleir, Cabinet Minister for Education, Health & Medical Education, and Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo, also congratulated Nabi, describing his maiden call-up as a monumental achievement for the Union Territory. “This is a proud moment for Jammu and Kashmir. We stand firmly behind him as he embarks on this new journey,” she remarked.
Notably, the 29-year-old fast bowler from the Valley has earned his maiden India call-up as a replacement for the injured Jasprit Bumrah in the Test squad for the Sri Lanka tour.
Nabi’s selection comes on the back of stellar domestic performances, having snared 104 wickets over the last two Ranji Trophy seasons. His remarkable haul of 60 wickets in the 2025-26 season was instrumental in steering Jammu and Kashmir to their maiden Ranji Trophy title, a feat that has finally brought him into the national reckoning.
