Srinagar, Aug 03 : The Jammu and Kashmir General Administration Department (GAD) on Monday issued a formal order finalising the arrangements for the Independence Day celebrations across the Union Territory on August 15, 2026, with the Chief Minister presiding over the main event at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar.
According to the notification issued by Additional Secretary Rohit Sharma (JKAS) accessed news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) the Chief Minister will take the salute at the Srinagar function, while other senior political functionaries have been assigned to district headquarters for similar duties.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary will preside over the function at Jammu, the order said. Minister for Health, School Education, Higher Education and Social Welfare, Sakeena Masood (Itoo), has been designated for Anantnag, while Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, will lead the celebrations at Poonch.
At Baramulla, Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development, Cooperative and Election, Javid Ahmad Dar, will take the salute, the notification added. Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, Transport, Science & Technology, IT, Youth Services and ARI & Trainings, Satish Sharma, has been assigned to Kathua, and Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, will preside over the Kupwara function.
For all other district headquarters not mentioned in the list, the respective Deputy Commissioners will preside over the Independence Day functions, the order stated. Sub-Divisional Magistrates will oversee events at their respective sub-divisional headquarters, while Tehsildars or the senior-most civil officers will be in charge at tehsil, block and municipal levels, as determined by the concerned Deputy Commissioner the order further reads.
