Assistant Director Tourism inspects ongoing projects in Gurez Valley

Gurez, Aug 22 : The Assistant Director of Tourism, Gulmarg, on Saturday carried out a detailed inspection of multiple ongoing tourism infrastructure projects in Gurez Valley, officials said.

The inspections covered the Recreational Park at Dawar, a Gazebo at Habbakhatun Spring, Shelter Sheds at Sheikhpora and Tulail, and a Cafeteria at Badugam, they added.

The Assistant Director, accompanied by Junior Engineers of the R&B Department and other field officials, reviewed the physical progress of the works and sought feedback on the status of construction activities, an official spokesperson said.

Later, the Assistant Director held a meeting with representatives of the Hoteliers Association and other tourism stakeholders. Discussions centred on promotion of tourist activities, improvement of visitor amenities, and coordinated efforts to strengthen the tourism ecosystem in the valley, the spokesperson added. Stakeholders put forth their suggestions and flagged several issues concerning the sector.

During the site visits, the Assistant Director directed the concerned agencies to ensure close inter-departmental coordination and adhere to approved specifications and quality benchmarks. He stressed upon timely completion of projects and proper workmanship, officials said.

The inspection and stakeholder engagement are part of the Department’s ongoing initiatives to develop tourism infrastructure and enhance synergy with local stakeholders, they added.

The Tourism Department has been undertaking several measures to upgrade facilities for visitors and augment the tourism potential of the picturesque Gurez Valley, officials further said. (KNS)
