New Delhi, Oct 19 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah will pay homage to police martyrs at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi on October 21 on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day.

As part of the programme, Shah will flag off a motorcycle rally featuring around 90 police riders from several states and Union Territories, Central Armed Police Forces and other central police organisations under the theme ‘Fight Against Drugs’.

The rally will include riders from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, along with personnel from various central forces and organisations.

According to an official statement, police riders from across the country and central forces will reach Ekta Nagar in Gujarat to participate in the Ekta Parade on October 31.

Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on October 21 in memory of 10 police personnel who laid down their lives in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh, in 1959.

The main function at the National Police Memorial will include a joint parade of Central Armed Police Forces and Delhi Police, followed by wreath-laying by senior officials and dignitaries. The Home Minister will also address the gathering and pay tribute at the memorial dedicated to the martyrs of Hot Springs.

From October 22 to 30, various commemorative events, including motorcycle rallies, blood donation camps, police band displays, runs for martyrs and competitions for children, will be organised at the National Police Memorial and by police forces across the country.(KNS)
