IGP Traffic Reviews Traffic Arrangements for Amarnath Yatra During South Kashmir Visit

Srinagar, 19 June : IGP Traffic, J&K M.Suleman Choudhary-IPS,, conducted an extensive visit to South Kashmir to take stock of traffic arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra 2025.

During the visit, the IGP Traffic inspected key locations including Anantnag, Pahalgam, Nunwan Base Camp, Frisking Point, Pouni Parking, Seckpathri Parking, Lavander parking, Sadhu Pora, and Chandanwari. He was accompanied by S. Ravinder Paul Singh, JKPS, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, Malik Idrees Ahmad, DySP Traffic Anantnag, Inspr Lalit Kumar, DTI Anantnag and other traffic officers/officials.

During the visit, the IGP Traffic held on-ground inspections of the designated routes, parking areas, and critical junctions to ensure smooth and hassle-free vehicular movement during the Yatra. The traffic preparedness, signage placement and coordination points with civil and police administration were thoroughly reviewed.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining seamless movement for Yatris, particularly in high-altitude and sensitive areas and directed the officers to ensure timely clearance of stranded vehicles, effective regulation and real-time communication with Yatra control rooms.

The following key directions were issued by IGP Traffic J&K to concern SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir:
Deploy recovery cranes and breakdown assistance teams in advance at identified stretches prone to vehicle failure or congestion

Ensure dedicated parking zones for LMVs, HMVs, and service vehicles at Nunwan, Pouni, and Seckpathri with proper demarcation and signage.

Maintain a separate corridor for emergency and essential service vehicles to avoid delays in case of exigencies.

Conduct briefing and debriefing sessions with field staff daily to review day-wise performance and challenges.

Facilitate smooth passage for locals, tourists and Yatris alike with a balanced approach towards regulation and facilitation.

He further instructed that any feedback from stakeholders, including yatris and local residents, should be compiled and used for mid-course corrections during the Yatra period.

M.Suleman Choudhary-IPS also interacted with officers of Traffic Police deployed in the area and took feedback on ground challenges. He stressed upon enhanced deployment of manpower, installation of directional signage and strict enforcement of traffic advisories to avoid congestion.

He appreciated the efforts of the field officers and reiterated that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure safe and smooth travel for pilgrims during the Yatra.

The Traffic Police J&K remains committed to providing uninterrupted and safe passage to all devotees partaking in the holy pilgrimage. (KNS)
