Leh, 1 Oct : The Administration of Ladakh has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the killing of four civilians in Leh on September 24 during protests demanding statehood and inclusion under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
According to an order, the District Magistrate, Leh, has appointed Mukul Beniwal (IAS), Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Nubra, as the Inquiry Officer to conduct a detailed investigation into the matter.
The purpose of the inquiry is to ascertain the circumstances that led to the law and order disturbance, examine the nature of the police response, and determine how the deaths occurred.
The individuals who lost their lives during the incident have been identified as Jigmet Dorjey, son of Yountan Chospel and resident of Kharnak; Rinchen Dadul, son of Tsering Morup and resident of Hanu; Stanzin Namgail, son of Nawang Zotpa and resident of Igoo; and Tsewang Tharchin, son of Stanzin Namgyal and resident of Skurbuchan.
In connection with the inquiry, the general public is invited to come forward with any relevant information.
Individuals who are willing to provide oral or written statements, or share material evidence such as photographs or video recordings, may appear before the Inquiry Officer at the DC Office Conference Hall, Leh.
The inquiry sessions will take place from 4 October to 18 October 2025, between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
The administration has requested the cooperation of all concerned citizens to ensure a fair, transparent, and comprehensive investigation.
The inquiry report is expected to be submitted within a period of four weeks.(KNS).
