Baramulla, Oct 13 : The District Magistrate Baramulla, Minga Sherpa (IAS), on Monday issued an order prohibiting the flying of drones across District Baramulla till October 31, 2025, under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.

The order, bearing No. 59-DMB (PS) 2025 dated October 13, 2025, comes following a communication from HQ 19 Infantry Division C/o 56 APO, which highlighted concerns over possible smuggling and misuse of drones in the Kashmir Valley, especially during the upcoming festive season.

According to the order, HQ 19 Infantry Division had requested the ban vide communication No. 10112/2/GS (Int) dated September 24, 2025, citing intelligence inputs suggesting that drones might be used for unlawful activities, including targeting security forces and vital installations.

The matter was subsequently discussed with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla and SSP Sopore for their inputs. SSP Baramulla, in his letter No. CS/Perm/2025/19091-92 dated September 30, 2025, also recommended imposing restrictions on drone or UAV operations as a preventive measure to ensure public safety.

“In view of the security concerns and to prevent any untoward incident, drone flying by any individual, event host, or organization is hereby prohibited in District Baramulla till October 31, 2025,” the order reads.

However, drone operations by Security Forces (SFs), Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), or any government department for official purposes will be permitted, provided prior intimation is given to the District Administration, Police, and HQ 19 Infantry Division.

The District Magistrate has directed all Executive Magistrates and District Police to ensure strict implementation of the order and take action against violators as per the relevant provisions of law (KNS)
