Jammu, Dec 23 : Significant steps have been taken in the Jammu Division of Northern Railway to minimise delays in train operations caused by dense fog and to ensure passenger convenience during the winter season. As part of these measures, a “scratch rake” / additional rake has been arranged and kept ready for operation in case the original train is delayed due to heavy fog or other operational issues.

Under this facility, it has been decided to provide a “scratch rake” / additional rake for Train No. 12414 (Jammu Tawi–Ajmer) and Train No. 22478/22477 (Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra–New Delhi–Katra) to compensate for delays in their departure and arrival.

This decision has been taken under the direction of the Divisional Railway Manager, Vivek Kumar, and under the leadership of the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and Senior Divisional Operations Manager, with the objective of ensuring that trains delayed due to fog during the winter season can be operated on time. These arrangements will help passengers reach their destinations without unnecessary inconvenience.

The provision of a “scratch rake” / additional rake is intended for situations where trains are delayed by seven hours or more, or indefinitely.By deploying these additional rakes, the punctuality of delayed trains can be maintained. This initiative will also ensure that passengers do not have to wait for long hours at railway stations, as trains can depart on schedule using the standby rakes.

Speaking on the initiatives taken to improve passenger amenities in the Jammu Division, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Uchit Singhal, said: “This is a significant step taken by the railways. Its main objective is to ensure comfortable and timely travel for passengers during the foggy weather in winter. Trains often get delayed due to fog.

The operation of these ‘scratch rakes’/‘additional rakes’ will be beneficial for passengers and will also help in the timely operation of trains. Such additional measures will also help in meeting the increasing demand of passengers in the future. This successful operation is a testament to the efficient management of the railways and its understanding of passenger needs.”

The Jammu Division of Northern Railway remains committed to taking proactive measures to enhance punctuality, operational efficiency, and passenger satisfaction, particularly during challenging winter conditions.(KNS)
