Srinagar, Dec 30 : The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gulmarg on Tuesday issued an advisory mandating the compulsory use of anti-skid chains for all vehicles plying on the Tangmarg–Gulmarg road in view of the forecast of snowfall and icy conditions in the area.

According to the order, snowfall is expected in the Tangmarg–Gulmarg sector, which may render the road slippery and unsafe for vehicular traffic. In the interest of public safety and smooth regulation of traffic, authorities have directed that all vehicles operating on the stretch must use anti-skid chains during snowfall and icy conditions.

The order further stated that the movement of heavy vehicles on the Tangmarg–Gulmarg road has been strictly prohibited until further orders. Any violation of the directive will invite strict action under the law.

The SDM has instructed the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Tangmarg and the Tehsildar Tangmarg to ensure strict enforcement of the order and to take all necessary measures for effective traffic management and maintenance of law and order.

The advisory will remain in force until further orders, subject to improvement in weather and road conditions, it said.

Meanwhile, the administration has also issued contact details of designated officials at Gulmarg and Tangmarg for public assistance during the period.

Residents and travellers have been advised to remain cautious and adhere to official instructions while travelling on the route, officials said.(KNS).
