Bandipora, Jan 14: The Traffic Police Rural Kashmir on Tuesday took action against a public service vehicle (PSV) driver after a video showing rash and negligent driving went viral on social media in Bandipora district, officials said.

According to officials, a Special Enforcement Team of Traffic Rural Kashmir, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Traffic Ganderbal–Bandipora Gulzar Ahmad, intercepted the vehicle soon after the video surfaced.

The team acted under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Rural Kashmir Ravinder Pal Singh.

The vehicle was being driven by Manzoor Ahmed, son of Mohammad Ahsan, a resident of Saderkote Payeen in Bandipora.

Officials said the video showed the driver indulging in rash and negligent driving, posing a risk to public safety.

Following the interception, the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) concerned challaned the vehicle, and the driving licence of the driver was cancelled, officials said.

The SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir has directed the enforcement team to deal with the matter strictly in accordance with the prescribed norms. Officials said there would be zero tolerance for rash and negligent driving across the jurisdiction of Traffic Rural Kashmir.

They said special enforcement teams have already been constituted to monitor violations and take action against errant drivers to ensure road safety.

Traffic Police have appealed to motorists to follow traffic rules and cooperate with enforcement agencies to prevent accidents and ensure safe movement on roads, officials added.(KNS).
