Kishtwar/Jammu, Feb 23 ; The Army on Monday described the recent encounter in Kishtwar as a new “benchmark” in counter-insurgency operations, asserting that security forces will continue to neutralise terrorists “wherever and in whatever form” they operate.

General Officer Commanding of the Counter-Insurgency Force (CIF) Delta, Major General A P S Bal, as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) credited the success of the operation to months of meticulous intelligence work and flawless coordination among the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and intelligence agencies.

“This operation reflects perseverance, clarity of thought and a well-defined vision. It showcases the integrated efforts of all forces working together over a sustained period,” Major General Bal told reporters as per KNS in Kishtwar.

He emphasized that the seamless synergy at all levels—from ground troops to senior command—was the key factor in the precise execution of the mission, significantly strengthening the counter-insurgency grid in the region.

The GOC highlighted the professionalism of the troops, noting that achieving “zero causality” on the forces’ side underscored their preparedness and maturity. He also paid tribute to Army dog Tyson, who was martyred during the operation, acknowledging the invaluable role of trained canines in high-risk missions.

Major General Bal revealed that six terrorists belonging to the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit were eliminated in February alone across the Udhampur and Kishtwar sectors. This, he said, reflects the sustained pressure being maintained by security forces in the belt.

“We will continue to neutralise terrorists wherever they operate in our area of responsibility,” the GOC asserted, adding that intelligence-driven, precision operations backed by continuous surveillance and inter-agency cooperation remain the cornerstone of the strategy to prevent militant regrouping and ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
