Srinagar, Feb 25 : Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Education, Health and Social Welfare Sakina Itoo clarified that no order has been issued by the government or any competent authority regarding implementation of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) in the Union Territory.

Addressing concerns over the TET issue, the minister said it was not an appropriate time to implement the test in Jammu and Kashmir and that the government would take a considered decision after reviewing the broader national framework.

“This is not the right time to implement TET in the Union Territory. We will first examine whether the policy is being implemented uniformly across the country and then decide how it can be introduced here,” Itoo said.

She added that, at present, implementation of TET is not mandatory and that the government would act in accordance with legal and administrative requirements.

The minister further said that if other states or Union Territories have approached the Supreme Court to defend teachers on similar matters, the Jammu and Kashmir government would also consider adopting an appropriate legal course, if required.

Itoo reiterated that no formal directive has been issued so far in this regard and urged stakeholders not to be misled by speculation.(KNS).
