New Delhi, Mar 27 : Jammu and Kashmir Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam on Friday asserted that the Muslim community must remain united to counter oppression, stating that the people of Kashmir stand firmly with Iran in its time of grief.
The remarks came after a delegation of the Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), led by its patron Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, met Iranian Ambassador to India Dr Mohammad Fathali in New Delhi.
Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) after the meeting, the Grand Mufti said the delegation conveyed the sentiments of the Kashmiri people against what he described as “atrocities” committed by the US and Israel.
“We met the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr Mohammad Fathali, and other officials in New Delhi today. During the meeting, we extended our heartfelt sentiments. The people of Jammu and Kashmir—not only those affiliated with the Shia community but the Sunni brotherhood as well—stand united in expressing their anguish peacefully against the oppression,” Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam said.
He said the entire Kashmir Valley has expressed grief over the killing of innocent people and solidarity with Iran.
The Grand Mufti also pointed to the deep cultural, historical and religious ties between Kashmir and Iran, noting that Kashmir has long been referred to as “Iran-e-Sagheer” (Little Iran), reflecting the enduring bonds between the two regions.
He said unity, steadfastness and collective prayers for peace were the need of the hour for the Ummah to face these challenges.
The delegation also included Aga Syed Hassan Al-Mosvi, Aga Syed Hadi Al-Mosvi and Aga Syed Mujtaba. (KNS)
