Jammu, Mar 28 : The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Saturday appointed several law officers for the High Court’s Srinagar and Jammu wings, with senior advocate Tariq Ahmad Lone being named as Deputy Advocate General.

According to Government Order No. 3957-JK (LD) of 2026, accessed Kashmir News Service (KNS), Lone is among the three appointees in the Srinagar wing. Shabaz Sikandar Mir has been appointed as Additional Advocate General, while Lone and G.N. Sofi will serve as Deputy Advocates General.

In the Jammu wing, Meharban Singh has been named Additional Advocate General, Meenakshi Slathia as Deputy Advocate General, and Anishwar Chatterji Koul as Government Advocate.

The appointments are for a period of one year, with provisions for extension based on satisfactory performance, the order issued by the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs stated.

All appointees will be governed by the terms and conditions outlined in various government orders dating back to 2015, and their appointments are subject to the production of eligibility documents prescribed under SRO 98 of 2016.

The order further noted that the appointments are subject to the outcome of a pending public interest litigation—WP(C) PIL No 6 of 2021, Sushil Chandel Vs Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and others—before the High Court.

In compliance with Administrative Council decisions, the newly appointed law officers will be required to submit case information on a daily basis through the Director Litigation Kashmir, along with fortnightly reports to the Law Department. They must also furnish weekly, department-wise advance lists of cases every Friday or Saturday. (KNS)
