Jammu, Apr 4 : The Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (PDD) has approved the augmentation of two key receiving stations at Karan Nagar and JVC in central Kashmir’s Shalteng area, as part of a broader push to strengthen power infrastructure in the region.

In a written reply to a question by Congress MLA Tariq Hameed Karra, the government as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) informed the Legislative Assembly that the 33/11 kV receiving station at Karan Nagar is being upgraded from 2×10 MVA to 3×10 MVA, while the JVC station will be augmented from 1×10 MVA to 2×10 MVA.

The PDD said tenders for the upgrade works have already been floated and power transformers booked for installation upon delivery from the Electric Centre Store Division in Pampore. The projects are part of the 2025-26 financial plan.

In a separate infrastructure push, the government said 7,123 electric poles were installed across 26 feeders under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) in the Mir Gunj sub-division during the last financial year.

According to official data, key pole installations included 510 poles at Bemina-2 FO6, 460 at Karanagar F01, 445 at PC Depot F01, and 392 at Shalteng FO6. The department also laid 79.97 km of ACSR conductor and 343.43 km of AB cable, besides installing 103 distribution transformers.

Responding to another query, the government ruled out any amnesty or settlement scheme for commercial consumers, including MSMEs, saying no such proposal was under consideration. It added that the Domestic Amnesty Scheme, offering 100 per cent interest waiver for households, has been extended till March 31, 2026.

Officials said work on several feeders, including at Shreenbagh, Zainakote, and Bemina, has been completed, while works at JVC F02, Karanagar FO5 and Bemina-1 FO3 are still in progress. Work on the PC Depot FO3 feeder is yet to begin due to pending drawing approvals.

The government said fresh targets for the 2026-27 fiscal are yet to be released by the Planning & Procurement wing. (KNS)
