Bandipora, Apr 4 : The Bandipora–Gurez road in north Kashmir remained closed on Saturday following heavy snowfall, even as authorities rescued 38 stranded vehicles during a night-long operation, officials said.

An official told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), the operation was carried out by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) after multiple vehicles were trapped near Razdan Pass due to fresh snow accumulation, he said.

Stranded passengers have been shifted to safer locations, and efforts are underway to clear the road stretch, the official added.

The Gurez valley has witnessed fresh snowfall over the past few days, prompting the administration to issue an alert and restrict movement on the 85-km-long road as a precautionary measure.

Notably, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall and snowfall in the region over the next 24 hours. (KNS)
