Srinagar, Apr 15 : Peoples Conference president, MLA Handwara Sajad Gani Lone on Wednesday extended his support to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s ‘Nasha Mukth Abhiyan’, terming the drug menace the “most vicious threat” confronting Kashmiri society.

Lone, a former Social Welfare Minister as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) said the scourge of drugs had long outpaced the state’s response mechanism.

“I have been a Social Welfare Minister in the past. And it was scary,” Lone said. “I remember, the scourge of drugs was dangerously creeping in and we as government were totally unprepared.”

Thanking the LG for launching the campaign, Lone said there was “so much that needs to be done” to tackle the crisis.

In a strong appeal for societal accountability, the PC president said the community must confront the problem with honesty.

“We as a society have to acknowledge that the monster of drugs staring at our faces is real,” he said. “And that we have to collectively wage a war against it.” (KNS)
