Ramban, Apr 15 : The Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday accused Pakistan of orchestrating drug smuggling into Jammu and Kashmir for decades to fund terrorism and systematically destroy the younger generation.
“For decades, Pakistan has orchestrated drug smuggling into Jammu and Kashmir to fund terrorism and destroy our young generation,” Sinha said while addressing a public meeting after leading a ‘padyatra’ in Ramban district as part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan’ as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).
The Lt Governor said the drug menace is not merely a law and order issue but a cross-border conspiracy.
In a strong warning to drug networks, LG Sinha asserted that every hotspot would be mapped and hit like a “surgical strike”. “Not a single smuggler will be spared. The entire network will be dismantled,” he said, directing police to break supply chains and list all traffickers, especially those with linkages to Pakistan-backed operations.
Stressing on a “Whole of Government” and “Whole of Society” approach, the Lt Governor said, “If the neighbour’s house is on fire, yours is not safe. Drugs don’t spread like flames — they spread like wind.”
He called upon every panchayat and ward to form women’s vigilance committees, describing women as the “frontline of this war” against Pakistan-funded drug terrorism.
LG Sinha warned them against falling into the trap. “Drugs are not cool — they are slavery to drugs and drug dealers. Pakistan wants to trap you. Do not let that happen,” he said.
The Lt Governor added that while treatment and rehabilitation would be a priority, those pushing drugs with cross-border links would face the full force of the law. “If we fail today, future generations will not forgive us,” he said.
LG Sinha later administered the anti-drug pledge and flagged off a bike rally in Ramban. (KNS)
