Srinagar April 21 : Prominent Islamic cleric Maulana Rehmatullah Qasmi on Monday said that Islam lays down a code of conduct for human life, including clear boundaries on intoxicants and individual responsibility towards society.
Speaking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Qasmi said that guidance on human conduct is laid down in the Holy Qur’an, where matters of permissible and prohibited actions are explained.

He said lack of understanding of religion leads to confusion about what is right and wrong.
Referring to teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), he said every individual has responsibility towards society and is accountable for actions.
Qasmi said Islam prohibits intoxicants, including alcohol and drugs, and applies the same principle to substances used in the present time.
“Islam prohibits intoxicants, whether alcohol or drugs used in today’s world. It is the responsibility of families and society to prevent their use,” he said.

His remarks come at a time when anti-drug campaigns, including Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan, are being carried out in different parts of the country including jammu and Kashmir to address substance use.
He said families and institutions have a role in preventing substance use.
He called for participation in community affairs, including mosque committees, and said such involvement can support social order.
He said people should work within society, avoid harmful actions, and support each other.(KNS)
