Hajin, May 8 : Two young men died and another remained missing after they slipped into the river Jhelum while washing tents along its banks in the Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday, officials said.

The incident took place when one of them lost his balance and fell into the strong currents. The other two jumped in to rescue him, but all three were swept away.

Locals, along with police and SDRF personnel, launched a rescue operation soon after. The bodies of two of the men were later recovered from the river. They have been identified as Sohail Ahmad Dar, 22, son of Gh Nabi Dar, and Aadil Ahmad Dar, 18, son of Bashir Ahmad Dar.

Efforts continued to trace the third man, identified as Sameer Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Jamal Dar, a resident of Chandargeer Hajin. Officials said the search operation was still underway. (KNS)
