Srinagar, May 08 : The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday ordered the immediate suspension of a principal and an assistant professor of Amar Singh College here following a complaint of alleged harassment of a female student.
Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) Education Minister Sakina Itoo said the suspension was ordered within minutes of the complaint reaching her.
“When this complaint came to us yesterday, I instructed the secretary that it should not take more than five minutes. Both of them were suspended immediately,” minister Itoo said.
The minister said a formal inquiry has been constituted with a one-week deadline.
“Not six months, not one month. The inquiry will be completed in a week,” she said, adding that the suspended officials will face strict action based on the report.
Education Minister said the government will not compromise on the safety of female students in educational institutions, terming the incident “most unfortunate”.
A formal complaint has been filed, and inquiry orders issued, she confirmed. (KNS)
