New Delhi, May 12 : In a major development amid raging protests over alleged paper leak and irregularities, the Centre on Tuesday ordered the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination held on May 3, and announced a fresh test following a comprehensive probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducted the exam, said the decision has been taken with the approval of the Government of India. The re-conducted examination dates will be notified separately.

“The Government of India has further decided to refer the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations therein,” the NTA said in a statement.

The testing agency assured full cooperation to the probe agency and said all materials, records, and necessary assistance would be provided for the inquiry.

In a relief to over 15 lakh affected candidates, the NTA clarified that no fresh registration will be required and no additional examination fee will be levied for the re-test. The fees already paid by the students will be refunded, and the examination will be re-conducted using the NTA’s internal resources.

Further communications, including the schedule for the re-conducted exam and re-issued admit cards, will be released through official channels of the Agency, the NTA added. (KNS)
