JAMMU, May 18 Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has asserted that statehood will be restored to the Union Territory, reaffirming the commitment made earlier by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

In an interview to a national television channel, LG Sinha as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) said the abrogation of Article 370 was followed by a smooth and peaceful delimitation exercise. “Elections were conducted without any violence or the need for repolls anywhere,” he added.

The LG emphasised that the democratic process has been strengthened in the region over the past few years. He stated that grassroots level institutions, including District Development Councils (DDCs) and Block Development Councils (BDCs), have become functional, empowering local representatives.

“Statehood will also be restored as assured by the PM and Home Minister,” Sinha said, reiterating the Centre’s stated position on the matter. (KNS)
