Srinagar, May 18 : The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against a retired Superintendent Engineer of the J&K State Power Development Corporation for allegedly manipulating his date of birth in official service records and destroying evidence to avail undue service benefits, police said on Monday.

The chargesheet was submitted before the Hon’ble Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar in FIR No. 09/2015 under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) against the then In-Charge Superintendent Engineer, who has since retired.

According to a police spokesperson, the case was initiated following a written complaint alleging manipulation of the date of birth in the service records of the accused officer. Subsequently, a probe was taken up at Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir, now the Economic Offences Wing Kashmir.

“Investigation revealed that the accused fraudulently altered his date of birth from October 28, 1955 to October 28, 1958 in official service records to secure undue service benefits,” the spokesperson said.

Officials confirmed that the manipulation was established through forensic verification reports from the FSL Srinagar and the J&K Board of School Education (BOSE). The accused was also found to have destroyed his original service book to conceal evidence, leading to the invocation of Section 201 RPC (causing disappearance of evidence).

The probe has been concluded with the chargesheet being presented before the court for judicial determination, the spokesperson added.

Police have urged the general public to remain vigilant against economic fraudsters and report any such incidents directly to the SSP EOW Kashmir, Crime Branch J&K. Victims of economic fraud may also send their complaints to the official email: sspeow-kmr@jkpolice.gov.in. (KNS)
