Srinagar, Feb 17 : The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that farmers in Bandipora constituency affected by last year’s floods and natural calamities have received compensation for crop and livestock losses, along with veterinary support and free medical care for animals.

Replying to a question raised by Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, the government said agricultural crop loss occurred on 40 kanals of land, affecting 40 farmers. Losses to livestock were recorded for 21 beneficiaries, while no damage to orchards was reported in the constituency.

Under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) norms, ₹42,250 has been disbursed to farmers for crop losses and ₹84,000 to those affected by livestock damage. Mobile Veterinary Units were deployed to provide doorstep care and respond to livestock emergencies through a toll-free helpline.

The Department of Animal and Sheep Husbandry conducted free vaccination drives covering 100 percent of animals against Foot and Mouth Disease, Lumpy Skin Disease, Haemorrhagic Septicaemia, and Black Quarter. Free deworming medicines were also distributed to livestock owners to prevent post-calamity health issues.

Officials said the measures aim to mitigate the impact of natural disasters and support farmers in restoring agricultural and livestock productivity in Bandipora.(KNS).
