Srinagar, July 3 : Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday said that around five lakh people in Jammu and Kashmir who currently do not have permanent homes will be provided housing under a central government scheme.
“The Prime Minister has decided that those who are still without a home will also be given permanent shelter,” Chouhan said while addressing a press conference. “We have conducted a survey, and around five lakh names have been listed. The verification process is underway to ensure accuracy.”
He said that once the verification is completed, allotment of houses would begin. “As soon as the verification work is completed, our poor brothers and sisters will be given a permanent home,” he said.
Chouhan also spoke about ongoing work to address rural poverty, particularly among women. Referring to the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), he said, “Through self-help groups, efforts are being made to increase the income of women under the Lakhpati Didi scheme.”
He said that many women in Jammu and Kashmir have already achieved the target of earning over ?1 lakh annually. “I am more happy that not only are Lakhpati Didis being created here, but Millennial Didis as well — those whose annual income has touched ?10 lakh,” he said.(KNS).
