Jammu, Apr 21 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday flagged off seven ambulances and healthcare equipment from the Civil Secretariat here for five districts of Jammu and Kashmir, an official spokesperson said.
The ambulances, provided by the Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, have been procured at a total cost of ?144.73 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion, Abdullah said strengthening emergency healthcare access, particularly in underserved areas, remains a top priority for the government. “These ambulances will significantly improve timely medical response and save precious lives,” he said.
Minister for Health and Medical Education Sakina Itoo, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dheeraj Gupta, JKSPDC Managing Director Rahul Yadav, and Director of Health Services Jammu were among those present on the occasion.
The chief minister was also briefed about other CSR initiatives undertaken by the corporation, including the provision of critical health equipment to various healthcare institutions, supply of essential items to childcare institutions and a blind school, as well as civil construction works carried out during the financial year 2025–26 amounting to ?237.28 lakh.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive development, Abdullah appreciated JKSPDC’s role in extending support to vital sectors through its CSR initiatives, the spokesperson added. (KNS)
